Cultivated in the areas of Piura and Tacna, the abanico shells are one of the many aquaculture products that Peru offers. Its scientific name is Argopecten purpuratos, a species that lives between 5 meters to 30 meters deep, under temperatures that vary between 13 ° and 28 ° C. It is characterized by a mollusk filtering 2 valves (two plates). It is currently exported in refrigerated or frozen presentations.
The abanico shells are characterized by being a good source of protein and amino acids, nutrients needed to maintain healthy muscles, repair tissues and promote hormone synthesis (hormone development). In addition, it provides minerals such as selenium and phosphorus, important microminerals for metabolic processes (activity that transforms matter into energy), and for the growth and maintenance of bones and teeth.
A mollusc that contains vitamin B12, nutrient that helps in the process of maturation of red blood cells, which are responsible for transporting oxygen to all parts of the body. On the other hand, its consumption reduces the risk of suffering from cardiovascular problems, develops the brain, improves the function of the kidney and counteracts inflammation.
